本書は、被爆建造物について記録し、後世に伝えていくという役割を担っています。

サブタイトル「未来への記録」

A Record for the Future

は、そうした将来へ向けたメッセージを表現したものです。

人類史上初めて核兵器による惨禍を体験したヒロシマ市民には、
その実相を後世に伝えていく責務があり、
Hiroshima Citizens have  responsibilities to convey the realism and atrocity of Nuclear Weapons' effects to the future generations. 

また世界の人々にも人類共通の脅威への警鐘として核兵器廃絶を訴え続けていかなくてはなりません。

And to the world, we have to keep ringing  bells about existence of the threats for all humankind actually facing on.

被爆50周年を記念し、これまでにない特色ある出版物をめざし、

Commemorating the 50^th years after A-bombed, we have organized teams and people in order to publish a book which is unprecedent and specific concerning the effects of A-bombing.

1993年（平成5年）8月から、さまざまな分野の方々で構成する被爆建造物調査研究会において、熱心な議論と調査活動を重ねていただきました。

研究会の委員の方々をはじめ、

快く資料の提供をいただいた市民の方々、関係各位に対し、

心から感謝申し上げます。
I want express my deep gratitude for many people in various fields from specialists  to Hiroshima citizens who made a lot of endeavors to engage in accomplishing of this book.
