広島市がアメリカ50州で開催した原爆展は、2007年にスタートしました。
A-bomb Exhibitions by Hiroshima City Government started in 2007.
They took place around at 50 states in the US.
2007年10月19日、オハイオ州、マウントユニオン大学もその会場となりました。
One of them was held at Mount Union University in Ohio on October 19,
2007.
パネル展示とともに、講演会が設定され、
Many Panels were displayed and a lecture was held at the same time.
「被爆者証言」と、「専門家による核兵器早期廃絶の重要性についての解説」、及び「質疑応答」
によって構成されました。
The Lecture was formed by “Testimony by hibakusha”,
“Why the Nuclear Abolition is so Urgently Necessary”
and “Q& As”.
入場者たちは一様にどこか緊張したような表情をもって集まってきました。
被爆者のはなしを聞くというので、聴衆はアメリカが批判されるのではないかと構えている様子もありました。
American participants seemed to be a little bit nervous and embarrassed
to some extent.
Probably such atmosphere was created because US citizens felt that they
might be criticized by hibakusha.
けれども、被爆者がはなしをしていくうちに、聴衆の表情が変化していきました。
However while they were listening to hibakusha's testimony, the mood was gotten to be changed gradually.
多くのひとたちがうなずいたり、話の内容を理解し、共感してきたのです。
Many participants started nodding, and understand the feeling of hibakusha.
And finally they expressed their compassion.
被爆者がはなすのは、憎しみや戦争責任のことではなく、自分の苦しみ、そして、家族・隣人のはなしだったのです。
What hibakusha told American citizens were not about crimes nor hatreds, but about his(her) personal pains and sufferings caused by
A-bomb disaster and family, friends and their neighbors.
原爆の惨禍の中から生き残った被爆者が、その後、家族や地域の人々に助けられ、命をつないだことを、丁寧にはなすのです。
hibakusha told them on how he(she) survived, and what kind of lives they led
after A-bombing in details.
聴衆の表情は、いつしか穏やかなものになり、会場はとてもあたたかい雰囲気になっていました。
Gradually the atmosphere of the audience was getting calm and the place was surrounded
by very warm feeling all around.
会場にいる人は皆、被爆者の人柄や証言に引き込まれたようでした。
People seemed to be really impressed and touched by the personality of hibakusha and his(her) story.
